Progressively, the program was working; employees were engaged and excited, and more importantly, Mike, participated and advanced toward a healthier lifestyle.
Unfortunately, the program was completely managed internally by one-person, Benjamin. So when he left the company, the program collapsed shortly thereafter, and in December of 2007, Mike, now 38, passed away due to heart failure.
This unthinkable event has fueled the concept that employee wellness programs are more effective if conducted by an external and dedicated health management organization. This solution is paramount to accelerate short and long-term behavioral change, which can translate into tangible benefits for all parties involved.
